Beginning Life

Davis’s parents divorced when she was just a baby and later she was adopted by Keith Davis (psychology professor, University of South Carolina) her stepfather and Dorothy (a university data analyst), her mother married in 1968. She grew up in Columbia, South Carolina with three step sisters from Keith’s first marriage.

Ever since she was cast in a community theatre production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, at the age of ten, Davis desired to be an actress. She graduated from A.C. Flora High School, South Carolina in 1983 after which she went to the Rutgers University, New Jersey.

Career & Works

In 1987, Davis graduated and shifted to New York where she waited tables and opened up a yoga studio, collaborating with a friend. She got her big break in 1995 with a role in Melrose Place.

She worked in TV shows like: N.Y.P.D. Mounted (1991), General Hospital (1991), Alien Nation: Body and Soul (1995), Melrose Place (30 episodes, 1995–1996), The Ultimate Lie (1996), Beverly Hills 90210 (1996-1997), A Deadly Vision (1997), Atomic Train (1999), Sex and the Matrix (2000),Take Me Home: The John Denver Story (2000), Three Days (2001),Sex and the City (94 episodes, 1998–2004), The Winning Season (2004), Soccer Moms (2005), Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends (Voice, 26 episodes, 2004-2006) and also hosted the show 200 Greatest Pop Culture Icons on VH1.

She also appeared on films named: Nine Months (1995), Traveling Companion (1998), Sour Grapes (1998), Blacktop (2000), The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005), The Shaggy Dog (2006), Deck the Halls (2006), Sex and the City: The Movie (2008), Couples Retreat (2009).

She also worked on an advertisement campaign for Head and Shoulders shampoo and worked in 2001, Christmas movie, Three Days for the ABC Family channel.

The largest privately – owned department store in America, Belk, in Jun 2008 inked a partnership deal with Davis for ladies’ clothing and accessories line.

Sex and the City

Davis joined the show Sex and the City in 1998 to play the pivotal character of Charlotte York. She is the only one of the four main actresses from the show who was never got any Emmy nomination until 2004.

Charlotte, a conventional Connecticut woman, works in an art gallery. A positive person, but she is the most laid back, as she stresses upon spiritual love instead of lust. She has her own set of rules about love and dating and is always in search for the right man. As a result, she is quite critical at times of her close friends’ philandering ways.
Charlotte was quite a bright student at the Smith College from where she majored in Art History, with a minor in Finance and became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She won the titles homecoming queen, prom queen, "most popular," student body president. She was also tracking team captain an active cheerleader and a teen model in her youth.

Personal life

Davis has been a shy girl in her young age and began drinking quite early. Now she is a recovering alcoholic, although she became sober in her mid – 20s. She has dated a variety of actors in the past like David Duchovny, Jeff Goldblum, Alec Baldwin, and Liev Schreiber and recently was spotted with Nick Leone, a film maker. Their relationship is not certain as of yet.
Davis resides in Los Angeles, California.

Davis has been nominated at the Emmys and the Golden Globe Awards for her work in Sex and the City and even won the Screen Actors Guild Awards, along with the entire star cast of Sex and the City in 2001, 2003, under the category Best Ensemble - Comedy Series.
