The focus of the blog today is, Aleksandr Petrovsky, a character magnificently portrayed by Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Carrie at times calls this renowned painter and artist as "The Russian,” and he pampers her a lot with loads of romantic gifts and takes her around to exquisite places in New York, which Carrie has never ever seen.

Though this man just appears in the last, which was the 6th season of the show, some time after Berger has broken up with Carrie, his presence in Carrie’s life opens up her mind to certain issues pertaining to children and whether she wants to have some or not. Also she introspects about her love life, as age starts to catch up.

As Aleksandr is about to head back to Paris for a special single exhibition, he asks Carrie to accompany him. It is a very crucial decision for Carrie, who discusses it thoroughly with her friends, even disagreeing with them, and ultimately she says yes.
But the end for the relationship starts in Paris as Carrie comes to know that Aleksandr’s priority in life will always be his own self and his work, and she will come only later, in that list. She gets lonely there and soon starts yearning for a reprieve from the monotony of the relationship.

So here is a character, who also marks up a turning point in Carrie’s life. She has had lovers and relationships in the past, but not any for whom she would jump on that plane to Paris, leaving behind her friends, whom she loves so much and who seemingly cares for her so much. Also, she did not mind going away from her friends, knowing well that deep down, they all disapprove of this idea. Well that is about Russian painter, Aleksandr Petrovsky.
