Beginning life & Family
Parker belongs to a Jewish family and is the daughter of Steven Parker (journalist and an entrepreneur) and Barbara ( teacher and nursery school operator) but when the couple split, she grew up with her mother and step father Paul Forste along with her seven siblings, three from her mother’s first marriage and four from the second marriage of her mother. The family moved first to Cincinnati, Ohio where she went to the School for Creative and Performing Arts and later to Dobbs Ferry, New York where she started to work as a child actress. In 1977, the family once again moved, this time to Roosevelt Island, then to Manhattan proper, and finally to Englewood, New Jersey where Parker went to Dwight Morrow High School. She had also previously attended the School of American Ballet and the Professional Children's School, Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California. She was the part of the Broadway production of The Innocents, when she was quite young.
Career & Works
She was part of The Sound of Music, along with her siblings in St. Louis, MO. Later she did the Broadway musical Annie (1977-81), even bagging the lead role later on.
She has appeared on TV shows such as: A Year in the Life (1986, miniseries), The Little Match Girl (1974), Square Pegs (1982-1983), Equal Justice (1990 - 1991) and Sex and the City (1998-2004).
Parker is also producing a new comedy series name "Washingtonienne" for HBO which will start running in 2009. The story is about the life and times of 3 smart and urbane men who work for the powerful men on Capitol Hill.

On Stage, Parker gave some very notable performances like in: Sylvia, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and the Tony Award nominated, Once Upon A Mattress.
She also hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2000. She has also worked with the world’s biggest fashion brands, like Garnier, Gap etc.
She also has her own fragrance line, named "Lovely", "Covet", while "Dawn", "Endless" and "Twilight" would be coming soon. She even has a fashion line named Bitten.
Sex and the City

One of the best and most famous works of Parker has been in the sitcom Sex and the City. Darren Star was quite certain that she should be included in the cast and she was a huge success. Although the series showcased sexual impropriety; Parker never changed the strict no-nudity clause mentioned in her contract for all the six seasons of the show.
From the third season onwards, Parker even donned the role of the producer of the show. In 2006, she stated that she will never do TV soaps again. On 30th May, 2008, a full length feature film, Sex and the City also hit the movie screens.
On the show, Sarah enacts the role of Carrie Bradshaw, the lead protagonist and the narrator of the show. She writes a weekly column for the newspaper The New York Star named "Sex and the City" where she writes about sex and sex lives and relationships of various people. She is a high class socialite, and has a distinctive fashion sense. Although she has several boyfriends, her relationship with "Mr. Big" is strange, intriguing, and complex. She has three very close friends named Samantha Jones, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes.
Personal life & Relationships
From 1984 up till 1991, Parker was involved with actor Robert Downey Jr. which ended because of Downey’s drug addiction. Then she dated John Kennedy Jr., a journalist, and then came in her life Joshua Kadison, the famous singer – songwriter.
She married actor Matthew Broderick, on 19th May, 1997 in a historic synagogue located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and is now closed. Their son James Wilkie Broderick was born on 28th October, 2002. The couple resides in New York City and all three people in the family are left – handed.
Parker is the UNICEF's Representative for the Performing Arts and a prominent member of the Hollywood's Women's Political Committee. She even went to Liberia in 2006 as UNICEF’s ambassador. She is also UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States.
Honors & Achievement

Parker has been nominated at the Golden Globes awards, several times. In 2005, she was nominated for her work in The Family Stone, under the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy. The same year she was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series: Musical or Comedy in recognition for her work in Sex and the City. She has been nominated in this category for the same show in, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999 as well. She won this award three times in a row, in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and then again in 2004.
Parker also has a couple of Emmy Awards in her kitty. She won her first along with the rest of cast crew of Sex and the City in 2001 under the category, Outstanding Comedy Series, an award for which the show was nominated in the years 2004, 2003 and 2002 as well. Then in 2004 for Sex and the City again, she won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award. She was nominated in the same category and for the same show in 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1999.
At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Sarah has achieved nominations, along with the Sex and the City cast, in the category, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, in the years 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002 and 2001. They won this award two times, in 2004 and in 2002. Individually, she was nominated under the category Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series four times, in 2000, 2001, 2002 and in 2005, winning this award in 2001.
She has also received, as a part of star cast of The First Wives Club & State and Main, the NBR Award for Best Cast, in the years 1996 and 2000 respectively.
In 2007, the magazine, Maxim put her on the top of their list of the Unsexiest Women in Show Business.
